Janice's Personal Email to an Exchange Student

Hi Oscar,

Please to meet you! I’m Chris and I’m 12 years old. My new school is so cool! The name of the school is The Methodist Church HK Wesley College. My school is in Siu Sai Wan. I go to school by bus and ferry because I live in Peng Chau, which is far from school. The school starts at 7:45 a.m. and finishes at 6:30 p.m.

My favourite school facility is library. There’s a library, where students can read books and do homework. It is next to the self-study room. Sometimes, the library organises some activities such as movie appreciation. We watched the film ‘Your Name’ in the library a few days ago. It’s like watching a movie in the cinema. It’s fabulous!

My favourite subject is Mathematics. First, I think Maths can improve our logical thinking ability. Learning Maths is really interesting, so I’ve joined the Maths Club. I help organise competitions like Rummikub and Rubik’s Cube. I’ve joined Red Cross, too. It’s a non-profit organisation which focuses on protecting human life. I want to join Red Cross because I want to care for the health of the vulnerable. Music is also my favourite subject. This year, instead of having normal music lessons, the school has introduced a new course called Integrated Performing Art (IPA). We learn how to play musical instrument such as violin, trumpet and handbell. I’m learning how to play a Chinese musical instrument called Erh-hu, a two-stringed fiddle. It consists of a long vertical stick-like neck. If you play it well, its melodies can be tender or sonorous. However, if you’re incapable of controlling it, it causes squeaky and scratchy sounds.

These are all about my school. How about you? Where is your school? Which club have you joined? What is your favourite subject? What are your favourite facilities at school? I hope to receive your reply.

Write soon!

Cheers,

Chris

Henry's Personal Description (Unit 1 Long Writing)

Henry Kong 1D (8)

Welcome to my blog! This is where you’ll learn all about me - Henry Kong. I’m a 12-year-old secondary school student from Hong Kong. My dad is a tram supervisor and my mum is an assistant. I don’t have any brothers or sisters. I don’t mind though as I don’t have to share toys or food with anyone.

The first thing I want to tell you is my appearance. I have pale skin although I often stay outdoors. I still don’t know why I don’t have tanned skin. I have spiky hair and a pointed face. I’m average in height. My mum always tells me that I’m lean but she also says that I have a great body shape. I’m not sure if I should believe in her because all parents think their children are good-looking.

How about my personality? My friends tell me that I’m outgoing and talkative because I like meeting new friends. I like talking with others so that I can know more about the others. I’m neither adventurous nor energetic. I seldom take new challenges.

I love and appreciate my parents as they have been going through a lot of sacrifices for me. My dad is always busy at work, but he insists on teaching me with my homework when he gets back home. He’s the kindest man I’ve ever met. As for my mum, she always gets scared easily. However, I still remember how she got rid of the cockroach (which was huge and an absolute unit) when I was reading an enthralling piece of fiction before bed.

I like watching some funny videos online and making models such as lego, gundom and warships. My mum likes making models too! She builds shops and small houses! My favourite book of all time is Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Although Charlie’s adventure is a bit scary, it’s gripping and exhilarating. One day, I would like to visit the chocolate factory as I’m a chocoholic.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog.
